How the tutorial programme runs, week by week — content, past papers, practicals and the IA.

Programme structure
Tutorials run weekly through the school year in 90-minute sessions, with intensive blocks before mocks and before the May or June exam series.

What a typical session looks like
- Retrieval quiz (10 min) on material from two to six weeks ago, not last week — spacing is what makes it stick.
- Teaching (30 min) of the new topic, worked with the tutor reasoning aloud.
- Guided practice (30 min) on real past-paper questions while the tutor watches the working, not just the answers.
- Mark scheme review (15 min) — students see exactly where marks were available.
- Setting independent practice (5 min).
Practical and Internal Assessment work
For IGCSE, the practical paper (Paper 6 in the Cambridge structure) is a reliable source of marks for students who have been taught the expected phrasing around variables, control, reliability and improvement — and a reliable source of lost marks for those who have not.
For IB, the Internal Assessment carries 20% of the subject grade. We support it from the research question onwards, within the IB's academic honesty rules.

Frequently asked questions
How large are the tutorial groups?
Four students maximum. Beyond that the tutor cannot watch every student's working in real time, which is where most of the teaching value in a group session sits.
Can we do one-to-one instead?
Yes, and it is the better option when a student is behind on content, on a compressed timeline, or working on the IA.
